Bennett loves ice cream, cooking and planning meals. His mission was to help ensure that people in third world countries had access to a regular source of food and income so they would be free from hunger and poverty.
He chose to raise money for Heifer International to provide needy families with chickens, goats and cows to provide them with eggs and milk to feed their families or sell to support their families. While in 3rd grade he learned how to make homemade ice cream and made over 15 different kinds of ice cream to auction in order to raise money for Heifer International. He also partnered with a family friend to make her jewelry available for sale during the ice cream auction with the profits being donated to Heifer International.
By the end of the school year he had raised over $2000!
The project gave him a sense of accomplishment in being able to make ice cream from scratch – measuring ingredients, using the stove, designing his flavors and creating the names for his creations. In addition, he was thrilled that his work allowed needy families to be able to support their families as well.
